Overview

Our client is the expert of choice for establishing the cause and origin of complex civil and structural failures. They are looking for a civil engineer with drainage and associated infrastructure experience, who wants the project breadth and rewards associated with a career in forensic engineering. You will be joining a team of engineering experts drawn from the consulting engineering sector. Your experience to date should have a strong technical focus, in addition you will need an enquiring mind and have good lateral thinking and problem solving abilities. These qualities should be supported by strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Training and support will enable you to apply your expertise within a forensic context. Your clients will be leading insurers, adjusters, claims handlers and legal practices. The work will cover cause and origin investigations, design failure investigations and the preparation of reports for litigation purposes. In some instances, you will be asked to provide advice on remedial measures that can be taken. There is plenty of scope for career advancement up to partner level, the financial rewards in this consistent sector are excellent. Fee margins are healthy and on-going repeat business is the norm. The ability to form productive long term working relationships with clients is essential.

You will need a strong academic background, a 2:1 degree or above in civil engineering and be chartered with the ICE or an equivalent relevant body. A talented engineer on the verge of chartership would be considered. A high standard of written English is essential, your work will culminate in a report that will need to be understood by those with a non-technical background and should withstand technical and legal scrutiny. They may on occasion be relied upon during legal proceedings.
