A potentially career defining opportunity for a chartered civil engineer with commercial acumen. Our client, a major consultancy has a long record of delivering heavy civil engineering transportation projects internationally. Their established UK division is working on major civil infrastructure and scaling up their business through acquisition and organically by securing new work. The practice has a high level of technical expertise, receiving industry recognition for designing and delivering complex major projects globally, especially within highways, rail, water resources and tunnelling. This is a rare opportunity with a highly credible major player to help drive their long term expansion in the UK. It sits within the management structure of their UK operations. Career progression prospects are excellent, they are committed to a sustained period of growth and this position will evolve to take on more strategic and management responsibility.

Working alongside the director of their UK and Ireland business, you will be identifying and helping to secure new work, predominantly focused on highways, rail, tunnelling and heavy civil engineering infrastructure projects. This entails researching sectors and targeting companies, studying project delivery models and procurement routes, tracking project opportunities, client presentations and preparation of fee proposals.  You will provide input at a strategic level and in in the identification of potential company acquisitions, plus assistance during due diligence stages prior to buyout. More broadly, you will contribute to the successful delivery of projects, especially in a client facing capacity.

About you: A Chartered Civil Engineer with a technical grounding, commercial acumen and an appreciation of the UK’s civil engineering sector.  You will need a consulting engineering background, encompassing topics such as bid management, proposals, fee negotiation, framework agreements or design and build partnerships. More generally your work as an engineer should have included developing and winning new business, either as part of your function or in a dedicated capacity. Good communication skills are essential, as is the ability to forge effective long-term relationships with existing and potential clients.
