Overview

An opportunity for a senior civil engineer with extensive site based expertise. This three to four year assignment is on one of the larger and more complex civil engineering projects underway in the UK. Our client, one of the leading consulting engineers for the project, is highly regarded for designing and delivering major global transportation infrastructure.

The Project: Silvertown Tunnel; A 1.4 kilometer, twin bored road tunnel incorporating cut and cover, open cut works and portals valued at £1 billion, running from Silvertown to North Greenwich. The project also includes access ramps, ancillary buildings and a highway bridge.

The Role: Working for the design consultant you will oversee construction work being carried out by the consortium’s contractor. Reporting to the design manager you will provide a link between the design team and contractor, your role will entail; identifying and scheduling work to be witnessed, reviewing test plans, raising compliance and design queries, signing off as built documentation. More generally you will establish a system for technical queries and materials approvals and provide input on co-ordination issues. The role will be based in London at the consortium’s project office with regular visits to site.

About You: A degree qualified civil engineer with ten plus years’ experience. This should have been gained with a contractor, or in a site based capacity with a consulting practice. Experience of overseeing complex heavy civil engineering projects is essential. Exposure to tunnel or underground structures is advantageous. There will be extensive contact between the design team, the contractors’ representatives, and other stakeholders. Good interpersonal and organisational skills are a prerequisite.
