Our client is a leading international forensic investigations consultancy, they are looking for a structural engineer who wants to apply their experience within their well rewarded and varied industry. This is an opportunity for a structural engineer who has lateral thinking skills and natural curiosity, and who is looking for a rewarding career offering technical intrigue and progression. The position can be home or office based and will involve regular site visits throughout the Midlands area.

Your Profile: A degree or HND qualified civil or structural engineer with at least two years consulting engineering experience, or a contracting background with a technical focus. You will need good interpersonal and communication skills and have a valid UK driving licence.

Company Overview:  An international leader in forensic investigations for the built environment employing over 500 experts. Their successful UK division is steadily growing, it has an  ongoing workload that is carried out by a team of civil, structural, environmental, mechanical & electrical and fire experts.

The Role: The investigation of a range of structural engineering failures, typically affecting buildings, bridges, retaining walls and a range of superstructures. Assignments start with a site visit and the review of the design, construction methodology, site conditions and materials used. If required, you will request component/ material testing, this would be carried out in their state-of-the-art laboratory by specialist materials engineers or metallurgists. Using the information you have gathered you will unravel the cause of the failure, culminating in a report identifying the root cause of the problem and why it occurred. On occasion your findings will be used to settle cases in a court of law. Your reports will be prepared with potential litigation in mind. A team of experts is on hand to provide advice where specialist technical input is required.

Training & Development: Your line manager, the principal civil and structural expert will provide training and mentoring. You will learn how to conduct investigations and how to interpret and present your findings. The consistent demand for their services means they are steadily expanding, you will have regular career reviews and the opportunity to advance when you are ready. The position also provides a route to become an expert witness.

Working in Forensics: The forensic investigations sector commands high fee margins and is in constant demand. Their work is not tender driven, activity is constant and can be further boosted during economic slowdowns when the engineering and construction industry is drawn towards claims and litigation. Engineers in the sector progress swiftly, it is a profession offering excellent remuneration, career prospects and security.
