An opportunity for an intermediate level structural engineer offering work on remarkable structures and first class training and development support. The London office of this multi-discipline practice has a twenty-five strong building structures team with the expertise to innovate and design the most demanding projects.
Project Workload: Current examples of the scale and complexity of work underway includes a structure that has one of the largest subterranean excavations in the UK. A significant proportion of this 300,000 square foot structure is concealed below ground requiring close working with in-house geotechnical experts. The building’s aesthetically pleasing steel superstructure sits on a thirty meter, five storey basement. It is here, deep below ground where the reason for the projects’ remarkable design is located and where ninety tonne’s of cutting edge, high precision technology rests on deep slabs, encased in a structure that minimises vibration and ensures stability at all times. Remarkable too is that this, Albert Hall size excavation, is in the heart of the city. Another science and technology driven project is the structural design of two buildings for a seventy-acre science park. Both structures have been designed to provide environmentally advanced column free space, their innovative eye catching design incorporates steel canopies over roof terraces. There are many other intriguing projects including equally high value, commercial, residential and arts building structures. Moving forward you can be assured of on-going technical challenges that will greatly expand your structural engineering know-how.
Your duties: Under the guidance and mentorship of a structures associate you will be involved in detail design and analysis. More generally you will be given insight into the whole design process and asked to contribute ideas from conceptual stages onwards. You will be required to learn and develop as an engineer, and as a communicator who can develop working relationships with architects, clients and other engineering disciplines. Projects will utilise all the commonly used materials. In addition to your engineering duties you will be expected to work towards achieving chartered status with the ICE or IStructE. The company’s employees perform especially well when sitting IStructE part three exams and ICE professional reviews. There is on-going support and coaching to ensure you become professionally qualified without delay.
About you: You will need a 2:1 in civil or structural engineering from a reputable university and between two and four years building structures design experience. You should have knowledge of Auto CAD and design software such as Master Series and SCIA. An interest in the built environment, the ability to think laterally and good team working skills are essential. This is a well managed, profitable and long established consultancy with an excellent reputation. They will invest heavily in your training and development and provide excellent working conditions.
