Overview

An opportunity for a chartered civil or structural engineer to join a leading forensic engineering consultancy employing over five hundred personnel internationally. Their expertise has an emphasis on building and civil structures. More generally, their focus on the built environment means they are home to professionals with in-depth knowledge of civil and structural engineering, architecture, geotechnical engineering, materials science and building conservation. This is a highly regarded and capable business, for over forty years they have been understanding the reasons why structures fail and have developed numerous methods for their preservation.

Their London office is growing its forensic engineering capability within the buildings and civil engineering sector. As the discipline lead for the civil and structural division you will contribute to the management and growth of their operations in your specialist area and provide input on commercial and strategic issues.

They are looking for chartered civil engineer (MICE) or chartered structural engineer (MIStructE) with a background that provides a strong technical and practical grasp offering rounded design and construction insight. Knowledge of building structures and or civil structures (bridges, water retaining strictures, port & harbours etc) would be preferable. Previous experience of examining and analysing structural failures is highly desirable. The range of work will be broad, encompassing high-rise structures, bridges, foundations, piling, water retaining structures and more. You will be investigating the cause and origin of construction defects and structural failures which will be used to resolve legal disputes and claims. During initial site investigation you will oversee field testing and gather photographic evidence, you will then unravel the cause of the failure, consulting external experts as required. The culmination of this work is a report that provides clear, concise explanation of your findings.  This needs to be expressed in a way that can be understood by those from a non-technical background whilst being able to pass scrutiny during claims settlement and litigation.
